Leyna and I have been living in Grapevine in the US for six years and we moved over here from Dubai in the Middle East with our 3 boys. We originally come from the UK, but have now settled here in Texas after my job brought us here in 2000. Apart from completing the job of parenting our sons, being heavily involved in our church, I also traveled extensively with my job and like many of you who are reading this, had dreamt of having my own business.
Four
years ago, I picked up a book in a local mass retail store, which
caught my eye. The words ‘Coffee House’ in the
title are what did it. As a long time coffee lover who has worked
his way through several home espresso machines, and even spent time
roasting beans on a small fluid bed roaster in pursuit of a more excellent
cup, I knew I wanted to read this book, and so I bought it. It was
one of those impulsive purchases that was to have a much greater impact
than I could imagine. Most of the book was not actually about Coffee
Houses, but the first 3 pages immediately caught my attention. The
author had worked for some time at a Coffee House in DC and was expressing
the fact that the Coffee house was, if not the only place, one of
the few places where people of all ages could hang out and talk about
anything, whilst offering an alternative to alcohol. I began to think
about the impact of the Coffee house in Europe where I spent some
years in my earlier life and the vision for something similar here
where we lived in Grapevine began to grow. The concept of coffee and
community seemed to be a marriage made in heaven.
Well,
that was nearly four years ago, and it was not until May of this year
that I began to realize that if we did not do something about it,
we probably never would. And so, after weeks of research
and building a business plan, the dream began to turn into reality.
I am not sure, if we had known exactly how much work was involved,
whether we would have stayed the course, but Leyna and I are delighted
we did. I am sure that some of our friends from the Flame Church may
have booked some early vacation if they too had realized how much
work they would end up putting in, especially those who got to help
move the 1,000 lb Diedrich Roaster! It was an exciting day on 13th
November when we opened our doors for the first time and presented
our wonderfully fresh roasted coffee to our first customers. We did
no advertising at all, but word of mouth has ensured a steady stream
of new faces as business starts to grow.
Buon Giorno Coffee is the culmination of a dream, a love for coffee and a desire to present a destination for people to meet, get to know one another and share life, love and humanity. We offer outstanding products and our customers keep coming back and continue to encourage others to try us out for themselves. We are happy to adjust our offerings on a personal basis; you will find people ready to talk to you if you just need some company. Obviously, the coffee house itself is the focal point of our business, but we have a real passion for the drinks we serve and the fact that we roast our coffee on site gives us the opportunity through this website to offer our beans to the world at large, please feel free to visit our store or contact us if you have specific requirements.
In the end, if you visit Buon Giorno, we personally guarantee
your experience
will be a good one, or the drinks are on us. This project
would not have been possible were it not for a bunch of wonderful
friends and some excellent local businesses. There are too many to
mention, and if I do try to do so, I will undoubtedly miss one or
probably more. You know who you are, and you are much appreciated.
Lastly, Leyna and I give thanks to God, who has sustained us and encouraged
us to live our dreams, love our family and our friends and we look
forward to getting to know many of you better as our business grows.
We thank you in advance for your business and your kindness in supporting
us.
Best Wishes
David Clarke
